Vaccinated Mare:

a) Start at 2-3 months of age followed by two booster shots at 4 week intervals.

Only in endemic areas.

Foals from Unvaccinated mares may benefit form vaccination at 2,4, and 8 weeks of age but efficacy is unknown.

Not applicable in yearlings.

Encephalomyelitis (EEE, WEE & VEE) Unvaccinated mare:
  1. Start at 3-4 months of age followed by two booster shots at 4 week intervals.

Vaccinated mare:

a) Start at 6 months of age followed by two booster shots at 4 week intervals.

Equine Viral Arteritis

Only for colts to be used as breeding stallions starting at 6 months of age followed by a second shot at 12 months of age.

Only use in endemic areas.

Annual for colts to be used as breeding stallion in endemic areas.

Should also be given to teasers stallions used in endemic areas.

Influenza

Intramuscualar vaccine:

  1. Unvaccinated mare:
    1. Start at 6 months of age followed by two booster shots at 4 week intervals.
  2. Vaccinated mare:
    1. Start at 9 months of age followed by two boster shots at 4 week intervals.

Every three to four months at completion of initial series.

Potomac Horse Fever

Start at 6 months of age with second dose in 4 weeks.

Semiannual vaccine in endemic areas.

Rabies

Unvaccinated mare:

  1. Start at 3-4 months of age followed by second dose at 7 months of age and a third dose at 12 months age.

Vaccinated mare:

a) Start at 6 months of a age followed by second dose at 12 months age.

Use in endemic areas.

Rhinopneumonitis

After 3 to 6 weeks of age with booster in 6 months.

Deep intramuscular injection in hind  leg

Strangles

Intramuscular vaccine:

  1. Initial dose at 4-6 months of age followed by two booster shots at 4 week intervals.

Intranasal vaccine:

a) Start at 6-9 months with a booster at 3 —4 weeks later.

Do not vaccinate after clinical signs appear. In herd outbreaks vaccinate horses that are not showing clinical signs.

Semi-annual in yearlings.

Tetanus toxoid /antitoxin Unvaccinated mare:
  1. Start at 3-4 months of age followed by two booster shots at 4 week intervals.

Vaccinated mare:

a) Start at 6 months of age followed by two booster shots at 4 week intervals.

West Nile Virus

High Risk Areas:

  1. Unvaccinated mare:
    1. vaccinate at 6-8 weeks of age with two doses of vaccine at 3-6 weeks intervals afterwards.
  2. Vaccinated mare:
    1. Vaccinate at 4 months of age with initial series.

Low Risk Areas:

  1. Non-vaccianted mare:
    1. Vaccinate at 4 months of age with initial series.
  2. Vaccinated mare:
    1. Vaccinate at 5-7 months of age with initial series

Maternal interference with vaccinated is unknown.
