Barns

This is the side of the barn where our horse stock is located, it is used for palpations, vet treatments, washing horses, or anything requiring restraint. We also could have another wash rack if needed, we just have a swing there now. You can tell I like coke-cola! My "Resting Cowboy" is always in his favorite place to greet our visitors. I call him "Little Joe" (can you guess why?).

They have already started on the footing for the new building.  It will be where we do some of our work with the foals (halter showing and introducing the foals to new things), some of our riding (we want have to worry about the weather), storage area and we can put in portable stalls if we need them.

This is the hallway of our horse barn, the view from the middle of the barn. We have ten stalls, they're 12x12. We have crusher run, rubber mats and shaving for the floor of the stalls. We do not have automatic waters because I had a friend with horses that would play in theirs and floor their stalls, so we just have water buckets. As you can see our hallway is cement, with drains.

We have video cams in our stalls, which I can watch on the TV at the house! Also in our stalls we have ceiling fans and we just added big fans for every two stalls. We have a water mist system in the hallway that is on a timer, it really helps cool the barn. We have a automatic fly system, one in each stall, wash bay and both ends of the hallway.

We have one wash bay inside the barn, which can be used for washing, grooming and other things. We have a sprayer boom in wash bay, that is where your hose is up above your horse--it doesn't get in the way at all. The floor is cement with rubber mats. Just got rubber cabinets to replace the shelves on the back wall of wash bay. That's where our grooming supplies and some of our other horse supplies are kept.

Our Tack Room is located near the wash bay area, we have most of our tack there, also more horse supplies.

This is the new arena.  It is 72'x105' (18' side walls). As you can see we have a lot of skylights( all the way down both side walls and some in the roof), we have 6 windows that can be opened (or when they are closed some light comes in) and 4 large garage doors that also let in a lot of light!  I wanted as much natural light coming in as possible and as much ventilation as possible. This April we'll add lights and fans to the arena. Keith and Danny had added some lights so we can work some at night now!

This facility will serve as a riding arena as well as having portable stalls and storage possible. I feel it will have a lot of uses in the future. We want have to worry about the weather when someone comes to check out a foal or riding a horse! As for the floor, we have red dirt and sand mixed, which is dragged and watered regularly.

'Tote that bale, paint that post'.

Danny and Keith painting fence posts! This is our new pasture.  It is 10 to 12 acres of pasture and trees. They're putting up the Centaur fencing. I really like it a lot more that the white plastic fencing we have. We're needing more pastures, so we will have areas to separate mares and foals when weaning time comes and when we have outside mares in to breed to Patches.
